Kensora AllianceIn formation
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Honest answers to the honest questions.

We would rather be clear than impressive. Here is what the Kensora Alliance is, what it is not, and how it fits together.

Is this a political party?

No. The Kensora Alliance is issue advocacy, not a party. We advance one idea, that mental health is a human right, along with a few positions that follow from it. We are non-partisan. We do not endorse or oppose any candidate, party, or elected official.

What is a 501(c)(4), and are you one yet?

A 501(c)(4) is a type of nonprofit organized to advance the public good through issue advocacy rather than to elect candidates. The Kensora Alliance is a planned 501(c)(4) advocacy organization that is in formation. That means we are not yet a registered legal entity, and we do not yet hold that status. We would rather say that plainly than imply we are further along than we are.

Are contributions tax-deductible?

No. Contributions to a 501(c)(4) are not tax-deductible. We are not currently soliciting donations. If we ever mention support in the future, we will repeat this plainly so no one is misled.

How is this related to the Kensora app?

The Alliance shares the Kensora name and mission, and it was founded alongside the Kensora app, born from lived experience with serious mental illness. But it is organizationally and legally distinct from Kensora, the for-profit app. It is also distinct from the Kensora Institute, a planned 501(c)(3) that is likewise in formation. Same name, same values, separate organizations.

What does "mental health is a human right" mean to you?

It means dignity is not something a person has to earn back after they get sick. It means care, understanding, and a place in the community belong to everyone, not only to those who can afford it or who look well from the outside. We say it as a value we advocate for, not as a medical or legal claim. It is the throughline behind everything else we believe.

Do you provide mental-health care or crisis help?

No. The Alliance is an advocacy voice, not a service. We are not a clinic, not a counselor, and not a crisis line. The Alliance is not a crisis or emergency service. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please reach out for real help right now. In the US, call or text 988. If you are somewhere else, please use your local emergency number.

Who runs it, and how is it funded?

The Alliance is founder-led and new. Its structure is still forming, which is part of why we describe it honestly as in formation rather than as a finished institution. We are not going to name people, funders, or figures we cannot yet confirm. When there is more to say about how the organization is run and supported, we will say it plainly here.

How do I get involved?

The simplest thing you can do is add your name and join us. You can read more and reach us on the Get involved page. You can also read the ideas we organize around in our principles and positions.

What we will and will not claim

  • Advocacy, not medicine. Nothing here is a medical or clinical claim, and no product detects, predicts, prevents, diagnoses, or treats any condition.
  • In formation, stated plainly. The Alliance is a planned 501(c)(4) that is not yet a registered legal entity and does not yet hold tax-exempt status.
  • No tax deduction. Contributions to a 501(c)(4) are not tax-deductible, and we are not soliciting donations.
  • Separate organizations. The Alliance is legally and organizationally distinct from the Kensora app and from the planned Kensora Institute 501(c)(3).
  • Not a crisis service. The Alliance is not a crisis or emergency service. In the US, call or text 988; elsewhere, use your local emergency number.

Still have a question?

If something here did not answer what you came for, we would rather hear it than guess. Reach out, and join us if this is your fight too.
