OUR PRINCIPLES

The commitments that hold us together.

These are the values we advocate for, in plain words. They guide everything the Kensora Alliance believes in, and everyone is welcome to join us.

The Kensora Alliance is a planned 501(c)(4) advocacy organization in formation. It was founded alongside the Kensora app, born from lived experience with serious mental illness, and it is organizationally and legally distinct from Kensora, the for-profit app, and from the planned Kensora Institute, a 501(c)(3) also in formation. What follows are our founding commitments, expanded. They are values and advocacy positions, not medical or clinical claims.

THE PLEDGE

Seven principles we advocate for.

1

Life comes first

The preservation, support, and dignity of human life comes before all else, and by extension the dignity of every living being. Every other principle here is subordinate to this one.

2

Mental health is a human right

Caring for your mind is not a luxury or a privilege. We advocate for a world where the right to mental well-being is recognized as belonging to every person, everywhere.

3

Access is a right, not a reward

Support should reach people regardless of income, geography, language, or circumstance. We advocate for the idea that no one should be left without help because of where they live or what they can pay.

4

Rest and attention are protected

Sleep, quiet, and undivided attention are not indulgences. We advocate for a culture and for tools that protect people's rest and their focus rather than mining them.

5

Honesty over hype in health technology

Technology that touches mental health should speak plainly about what it does and does not do. We advocate against overclaiming and for language that tells people the truth, even when the truth is less flashy.

6

Safety before every other goal

When software meets a person in distress, keeping that person safe outranks growth, engagement, and every commercial aim. We advocate for that ordering everywhere it applies.

7

Privacy, consent, and belonging

People own their own stories, and choosing what to share is theirs alone. We advocate for privacy and clear consent, and we welcome everyone. This work is non-partisan and open to all.

We advocate for ideas, never for candidates. The Alliance does not endorse or oppose any candidate, party, or elected official, and it is open to everyone who shares these values.

A note on crisis

The Alliance is not a crisis or emergency service. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please reach out for help right away. In the US, call or text 988. People elsewhere should use their local emergency number.

Where we stand, honestly

  • In formation. The Kensora Alliance is a planned 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. It is not yet a registered legal entity and does not hold 501(c)(4) status.
  • Advocacy, not medicine. Everything here is values and advocacy language. We make no medical or clinical claims of any kind.
  • Distinct organizations. The Alliance shares the Kensora name and mission but is legally distinct from Kensora, the for-profit app, and from the planned Kensora Institute, a 501(c)(3) in formation.
  • On support. We are not soliciting donations. If support is ever offered in the future, note that contributions to a 501(c)(4) are not tax-deductible.

These are our commitments. Add yours.
